BACTrust Partners with PepsiCo, Fox Valley Pony Club, and Neighbors to Clean Up Flint Creek Corridor

BACTrust recently coordinated two events alongside the PepsiCo property on County Line Road in Barrington to clean up the Flint Creek Corridor. The effort is part of an ongoing partnership with Pepsi, the parent company for Quaker Oats, to protect the natural areas on the facility. Working from the southern edge of the site with private landowners, the first project utilized the skills of the Fox Valley Pony Club. The team dedicated approximately 50 volunteer hours of clean-up of debris, deadfall, and buckthorn, followed by a donation of time and resources from A Care of Trees, who brought the chainsaw and herbicide for the stumps of cut buckthorn.

The second effort included 22 volunteers who logged over 80 hours of volunteer time to clear debris, deadfall, and buckthorn from the northern end of the PepsiCo property. Workers from the factory took time out from desk jobs to don T-shirts, pick up tools, and labor the day away in the sun and bugs for the benefit of the watershed. BACTrust provided training, volunteers, and tools to the day. It was a wonderful corporate-community partnership effort that resulted in a cleaner watershed for all of us.
